This photo was taken at the Iroquois National Wildlife preserve in late autumn of this year.

It is a young Birch - symbolic of renewal and stability.

They were often used for center poles in Native American tee pees. Birch are forest-starters, often the first to sprout new life after forest fires. Their branches were typically used for besoms (broomsticks) in old Europe and carry on the symbolic theme of renewal and "sweeping away" negative energy.
